Cook Up Something Great with Plant Oils from Gourmet Factory

Plant oils are often used for cooking because of their high smoke points and neutral flavors. Meals prepared with plant oils allow the subtleties of even delicate foods to shine forth, so your culinary creations will taste the way they were intended to taste. At Gourmet Factory, we offer a variety of products – including canola, corn, and vegetable oils – that are ideal for any type of food preparation. “But wait,” you may be asking yourself, “isn’t corn a vegetable? What’s the difference between the two?”

While corn oil and vegetable oil are often used interchangeably in the kitchen, there are a few fundamental differences between the two. Corn oil:

  • Is made from the germs of corn kernels located near the base of the seed husks
  • Has a slight corn flavor at room temperature
  • Has a more neutral flavor profile when heated

Vegetable oil, on the other hand:

  • Is derived primarily from soybeans, although it may also be a blend of different plant oils
  • Has almost no discernable taste at room temperature
  • Retains its flavor profile throughout heating

Canola, corn, and vegetable oils are all categorized as “all purpose” plant oils, meaning they can be used in a variety of food preparations, be it deep-frying fritters, sautéing chicken breast, baking carrot cakes, or whipping up a little homemade mayonnaise.

Since its founding by Greek immigrants in 1969, Gourmet Factory has worked diligently to provide exceptional plant oils to our customers, not only in the northeast, but throughout the United States.  We’re still a family-owned and -operated company that places the highest priority on integrity, authenticity, and quality. When you turn to us for canola, corn, or vegetable cooking oils you’ll be able to taste our commitment to excellence with every bite of your meal. Together, we can cook up something great.
